Beware: The Most Hazardous Toys According To Latest Study

Toys have been part of every kid’s life. Everyone had at least one or two toys when they were young. Even grownups have toys, especially those who love to collect a miniature of their favorite characters.

But not every toy could bring happiness and fun to every individual, especially to a child. It could bring trauma and harsh past event to them.




As we all know, there are toys that are made especially for kids- but not because they are specially made for kids does not mean these toys couldn’t harm them.

Children under 3 years old and below are more likely to be harmed by a particular toy. Some possible accidents include, but not limited to;

  • Choking
  • Drowning
  • Bone fracture
  • Chemical exposures
  • Cuts
  • Suffocation
  • Blindness (rarely but possible)




There are toys that are not properly manufactured or toys that have poor designs. Beware; you might end up buying these hazardous toys.                                                   

1. Toy Guns

Several reports from the hospital – according to the doctors, children’s accidents are mostly related to toy guns. The risk of eye trauma using toy guns is possible, especially airsoft and pellet guns. Toy guns are quite popular among kids, mostly boys. And boys, compared to girls, like to play rough and as a kid, they are oblivious to all possible accidents.

Toy guns are not ideal for kids. They might manifest an attitude which they could bring until they are adults. That is why there are countries that banned toy guns including Afghanistan.




2. Fidget Spinners

The popularity of fidget spinner rose in 2017, but before that, there are several toys invented that is similar to fidget spinner in the early ’90s (early 1993 in particular). The purpose of this toy is for relaxation and concentration for people who lack focus. Another purpose of this toy is to relieve any psychological stress as well as anxiety and depression disorder.

But fidget spinner is definitely harmful to children. There are parts in this toy that are plastic and metal which leads to choking. There are reports on choking accidents related to fidget spinners for children up to 14 years old. 




3. Clackers

There is a weapon in Argentina that is similar to clackers, it’s called bolas. The popularity of clackers rose in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. It’s a simple toy- two small balls hanging in thread or strings. But the balls are mostly solid. When you attempt to clack the balls, you might end up aiming yourself. This leads to injuries such as black eye as well as nosebleed.

4. Hoverboards

Hoverboards are very trendy in 2015 amongst children, teens, and adults. It’s very addicting. It’s a scooter-like that needs balancing to use as a transporter. But fun as it may seem, the popularity of hoverboards decreased dramatically in later years due to several accidents report. Burn, inhalation, and property damage are some of the most common accidents caused by this toy.




5. Fisher-Price Power Wheels

This toy is ideal for kids who love riding a car. But without an adult’s supervision, this could be very harmful to young ones especially in an environment that is not safe for kids. When you release the pedal of this toy, it could continue to run- and this leads to injuries.

6. Slip N’ Slides

This toy is introduced by Robert Carrier in 1961 and manufactured at Wham-O. It’s a fun toy and perfect for summer. But if not played with caution, this will lead to serious injuries including brain injury, broken bones, even paralysis as well as neck and spinal injury. Those are pretty serious injuries that might lead to death.




7. Trampolines

Trampolines are good for exercises and boosting cardiovascular. Another benefit of this toy is to improve your endurance as well as relieve tension and stress. Despite the good benefits, this toy may also send you to the hospital. From 2002 up to 2011, more than 1 million are admitted to the emergency hospital all because of a trampoline. And almost every year, 100,000 injuries are being reported and 30% of which are broken bones.

8. Sci-Fi Slime

Instructions are written in the box of this toy and so are warnings and cautions. The chemical of this toy includes zinc sulfide which can cause irritations in the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. Children should play with caution.

As much as we want our kids to enjoy their childhood with the accompaniment of toys, staying vigilant and careful are the things we should not compromise as a parent. Our child’s safety must be our top priority. Once or twice minimal accidents are ok, but things will get serious if not attained properly.
